Congregation History

Rabbi Yossi Refson and his wife Sarah helped open the doors of Charleston’s only Chabad House in the early 2010s. They work closely with the larger Jewish community to ensure that people are taken care of spiritually and otherwise. Alongside other local synagogues and Jewish organizations in Charleston, Rabbi Refson partakes in Charleston’s annual Chanukah in the Square program. Rabbi Refson also occasionally participates in the Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies Program’s biannual Three Rabbi Panel at the College of Charleston. This Chabad, like many others, ensures that there is a wide range of programs for all ages and they are involved in the koshering of the College of Charleston’s only kosher dining hall.1
